Eagles News · Marching Band Places 2nd in Chicago

The East Central / Willow River Marching Band marched in Chicago on July 1, 2017, at the 100th Annual International Lion’s Convention Parade of Nations. At this international competition in Chicago,  they placed second out of 23 marching bands!! They beat several All-State marching bands from Michigan, Tennessee, Kansas, Illinois and more. The members of the marching band would like to thank all the local and Minnesota Lion’s clubs who supported their trip.  This year, the band is marching with a Japan flag. While in Chicago, they marched with 2,000 Japanese Lion’s Club members and then went back to march with the Minnesota Lion’s Club members.

The marching band is directed by Mr. Dan Kolker from East Central and Mr. Dylan Fuglestad from Willow River. This year’s drum majors are Steven Gordon, Evan Nelson, Dayne Nelson and Beth Groskreutz.

The marching band participates in the following local parades: Hinckley Corn & Clover Festival, Willow River Days, Sandstone Quarry Days and Askov Rutabaga Days. They also march in the Minneapolis Aquatennial Torchlight parade and they compete at the Minnesota State Fair.

In the past, the band has marched at Washington DC, The Alamo, Mount Rushmore, Disneyland, Universal Studios and many more. Next spring, the band will be travelling to the Bahamas.
